Obituary for Denise M Walk Byas

Today we celebrate the life of Denise Michelle (Walk) Byas, also known as Denisa. She was borrowed from heaven on January 26, 1957 in Frankfurt, Germany and raised in a Christian home by her parents Mr. Willie Richard Walk, Jr. and the late Mrs. Shirley Ann (Gaston) Walk. Their union brought forth seven siblings.

Denise accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and was involved in the youth choir and the music department at Calvary Emmanuel Church in Compton, California. Denise attended Longfellow Elementary and Walton Jr. High in Compton, California. She graduated from Long Beach Poly Technical High School in Long Beach, California. She was involved in many college and social activities throughout her schooling. She attended Compton Community College where she studied Telecommunications, Data Processing, and Clerical Studies. In 1975 she was crowned Homecoming Queen of Compton College. She also attended Cerritos Community College and Charm School at The John Robert Powers Modeling and Acting Agency.

Denise was employed by Brownline, a Division of Brooks & Perkins, Inc., in Torrance, California, as a Receptionist and Switchboard Operator, and ADT (Automated Data Processing Services), in Cerritos, California. Denise was a motivated individual and an astute business woman, she implemented and assisted in various community projects throughout her career. She embarked on many different career opportunities before venturing out and becoming an accomplished entrepreneur. Some of her many accomplished achievements include: Beauty Pageant Director, Fashion Show Producer, Designer, Modeling Director, and Founder/CEO of The EdibleFlorist.Com. Denise’s talents extended past her entrepreneurial endeavors with the formation of 3-Metric-3, a vocal group that included two of her sisters Vernita and Cheryl. The group recorded a record-single with Marc Copage of the famed TV sitcom from 1968 “Julia”. Denise was also well known for playing the Bass Guitar and was a vocalist in the all-girl POP/R&B band Klymaxx. Denise later married Howard Byas Jr. and from that union a daughter, Heather Michelle Byas was born.

On November 1, 2022, at 12:40 PM, our beloved Denise finished her work on earth and moved to Heaven awaiting her crown at the Resurrection. Preceding Denise in death, is her mother, the late Shirley Ann (Gaston) Walk; Niece (God-daughter), Ana Alicia Reece Bradley; her beloved God-mother, the late Mrs. Earnestine Carlyle; and her (God-sister) Marilyn Carlyle. She also leaves behind her daughter, Heather Michelle Byas-Neal (Aaron Neal Son-in-Law); two grandchildren; her father, Mr. Willie R. Walk, Jr.; her (God-father), Harold Carlyle; (God-brother), Jamel Carlyle; and six siblings, Vernita Walk-Gonsalves (Brother in Law, Robert); Charmalita Broadnax; Willie Walk III (Sister in Law, Carol); Cheryl Walk-Norton (Brother in Law, Dwyane); Rose Walk-Sypkens (Brother in Law, Jerry); Melissa Walk- Thompson (Brother in Law, Pastor Steve); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces/nephews, great great nieces/nephews, relatives and friends. Rest in Peace Denise, until we see you again (Amen).
