Obituary for Greta Canty

Greta Kay Canty was born on July 30, 1940, in Yazoo County, Mississippi to Ludy Hettie Bell Ratliff Thomas, who preceded her in death.

She was the youngest of six siblings which four preceded her in death. They were Edna Wheatley, Vivian Coates, Delores Reese and Hervy Thomas.

Greta accepted Christ at an erly age and was baptized at Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Bentonia, MS by the late Rev. W.H. Whitening.

Greta graduated from Lynwood High School in Benton, MS. She later met and married Cleveland Canty. From that union they were blessed with three children Kenneth Canty Sr., Cynthia Kay Canty, and Darrell Canty.

Greta was a long time member of Zion Star Missionary Baptist Church in Pasadena, California, where John B. Bledsoe was the Pastor. Greta served as a Choir member, missionary, and led many church committee programs. Greta's primary trade was a seamstress and certified beautician. She also, was the administrator of housekeeping at Sierra Bonita Towers in Pasadena, California. Greta then retired and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Greta was known to many of her friends and family to demonstrate and facilitate charitable acts towad others. Everyone who knew and loved her called her mom.

Greta Kay Canty departed from this life on February 6th, 2022 at Sunrise Hospital In las Vegas, Nevada. Her husband of forty three years Rev. Cleveland Canty and her granddaughter, Candra Kay Tyler both preceded her in death.

Greta leaves to cherish in her memory her three children Kenneth Canty ( Pontra Canty daughter-in -law), Cynthia Kay Canty, and Darrell Canty all residing in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also leaves Fannie Mae Reid, her sister of Jackson, Mississippi, her niece, Bettye G. Thomas of Pasadena, California, her niece, Caroline Pack of Detroit, Michigan, five grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of loved ones.
