Obituary for Renee Washington

Renee Ruth Washington was born on June 12, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio to John J. McCaskill and Geneva Bell-Proctor. She was the second born of two children.

Renee's K-12 Educational experiences began in Toledo, Ohio and upon moving to Los Angeles, California, she obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Loyola University.

Renee was raised in a Christian home where she accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Beulah Baptist Church under the leadership of Robert L. Taylor. As a devout Christian, Renee was also an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed worship and fellowship with the congregation, and being part of the Usher Board, Pastor's Aide Committee, and Community Outreach under the leadership of Pastor Anthony Nixon.

Renee met Timothy Ray Washington and the couple were married on November 15, 1979, and together they had one son, Joel Washington. She was an active participant in developing the spiritual life, character, and educational advancement of her son, Joel.

While in Los Angeles, Renee was employed by the United States Federal Reserve Bank as a Check Processor for over 6 years. She also held a position at the Los Angeles Superior Court as a Court Services Assistant for over 15 years. Upon moving to Las Vegas, Nevada, Renee served as a teacher’s assistant for Clark County School District for over 5 years.

Renee was a member of the Red Hat Society, affectionately known as the Red Hatters, as well as the Laborers of Love organization. Renee’s heart for giving was also exhibited through her time working with foster youth as a non-primary foster parent.

Renee had a plethora of personal hobbies. She was an active reader of the Bible, as well as many novels. She enjoyed water aerobics, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Above all else, Renee had a passion for mentoring young women and uplifting anyone around her with words of encouragement and support. This love for giving was reflected through the organizations she contributed to.

Renee was called home to be with the Lord on February 18, 2022, in Las Vegas, NV. She is preceded in death by her parents: John and Geneva Bell-Proctor, John J. McCaskill, and brother, Stephen Bell.

Renee leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Joel Washington; other children that she loved, Brittney, and Kyria Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
